About the Artwork

Saturday Evening Post cover, May 24, 1930.

While visiting Hollywood, Rockwell was taken to the set where Gary Cooper and Fay Wray were filmed for The Texan and here he observed the everyday scene of the leading man being made up for the camera. His faithful record of this moment has to be one of his best illustrations from this period. The study of the makeup artist, so far removed from any stereotype, is every bit as interesting as the portrait of the star.
