About the Artwork

Saturday Evening Post cover, May 03, 1941.

The young hat check girl could likely be an aspiring actress trying to make ends meet while waiting for a chance at stardom. With her arms full of coats, hats, and buttons, she is exhausted and bored, ignored by conventioneers who have rushed off to meetings. As a final small slight, Rockwell includes a smoldering cigar by her feet. In heels and with laden arms, she is too burdened to pick it up.
