Saturday Evening Post cover, Nov 03, 1945.
The massive bronze clocks at Chicago's Marshall Field's inspired this Norman Rockwell cover for the November 3rd, 1945 Saturday Evening Post. However, the clocks were electric and controlled by a master, so only after a power outage would a worker have to climb the 17 feet to set the time by hand. The original painting is now part of the permanent collection of the Chicago History Museum, and the newly restored clocks can still be found corner of Randolph and State, now owned by Macy's.
