Biography
Janet Walsh

The infinite variations of Janet Walsh's (1939-) watercolors reveal her command of the medium and skill in rendering a harmonious balance of subject and surrounding space. Her still-life paintings present a refreshing palette of fresh cut flowers with the perfect textural company to highlight the arrangement: basket, crystal, watering can straight from the garden. Walsh shares her proficiency in her recently published "Watercolor Made Easy - Techniques for Simplifying the Painting Process" and in several Floral Watercolor Workshops she leads each year.

Frequently travel and teaching overseas provides inspiration and "changed my way of looking at the process of making art work. While in Europe, my powers of observation seem to increase dramatically as I am drawn to different and stimulating new subject matter. Each country has its own distinct look...suggesting a whole range of painting possibilities." Consequently, Walsh has added teaching workshops in Europe to her several U.S. locations.

The artist's watercolors are found in numerous corporate and private collections and often featured in the American Watercolor Society's traveling show. Listed in the "Who's Who in American Art," she is a member and Vice President of the American Watercolor Society and a Fellow in the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts in London, England. In addition, Walsh is the featured artist in the Fall 1994 Watercolor issue of American Artist.

Originally from Philadelphia, Walsh divides her time between her home on the upper west side of Manhattan and her studio in Lloyd Harbor, Long Island, NY, when not teaching and traveling.
