Born in the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, in 1971, Surret started drawing at an early age. He received a full scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design where he studied illustration and art history.
During a lengthy visit to Japan, he learned to cherish the tranquility and serenity of gardens as places to meditate. That esteem, melded with his admiration for the art of Mark Tansey and Chris Van Allsburg, has resulted in imaginary, surreal landscapes evoked by the feeling of the solitude of nature without the intrusion of objects that can refer to time.
