| Among other things, traveling provides a distinct source for his inspiration. He has spent considerable time in Asia and Mexico, where he has developed a keen interest in the landscape as well as the cultural aspects of those countries' peoples. He often paints in reference to the experiences that he has had on his travels, bringing to the canvas representations of places that he has been and those that exist only in his imagination. Through the use of detailed images, shapes and colors, Powell creates a unique drama before the viewer's eye. He paints in a manner in which he wishes the viewer to wander through the painting and then feel invited back for another visit. His works are displayed in many different private and public collections around the world. |
