| For Terry Rose (1939-), the act of drawing is an event comparable to the athletic performance he so skillfully captures in his artwork. "Like an athlete," says Rose, "I prepare for it and then attempt to stop thinking and let my instincts guide me." Each completed work is the result of much preparation, study and development. Inspired by movement and energy, Rose uses lines, light on top of dark, to create tension and movement. His connection with an athlete is based upon how the athlete responds at any given moment and, by capturing the critical instant with his brush and paint, he arrests the moment but retains the spirit and essential gesture of the athlete at the peak of performance.
