| Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1938, Andras Kaldor attended high school in Hungary. He left Hungary after the defeat of the revolution in 1956. He traveled around Europe as a member of a basketball team - but his main reason for leaving Hungary was to travel and see the world from the other side of the Iron Curtain. He came to England and attended Edinburgh University to study architecture. After giving up architecture in 1980 to concentrate full-time on his painting, Andras has exhibited widely in England, France and America. Kaldor's original dream when he gave up architecture to devote his time to painting was for he and his wife to live the life of an itinerant artist in the warmer climate of the Mediterranean, sailing from place to place and painting as they traveled.
