Valerie Willson Biography |

| Willson lives on rural island near Seattle, Washington, and is influenced both by an intense immersion in nature and close involvement in the process of people's lives. Patterns fascinate her. The patterns in growing things and the patterns in our lives, the way humans address similar issues over and over, yet differently each time. Hope and joy fascinate Willson, as they are woven into the continual cycle of living things, and "...in the way for us as humans in that it is a reason to live and yet such a challenge." It is these concepts that Willson thinks about and attempts to infuse into her abstract paintings as she builds/subtracts layer upon layer and pattern over pattern. Over the years, Valerie Willson has become increasingly interested in incorporating the techniques of monotype into her paintings.
