Artist Biographies

Craig Bone

Craig Bone's extraordinary paintings capture the magnificent beauty of Africa's native wildlife in breathtaking detail.

Born in Harare, Zimbabwe (formerly Salisbury, Rhodesia), Bone's earliest artistic inclinations were evidenced by cartoon drawings of his teachers. Bone studied graphic design at Natal University in South Africa before returning to his homeland to begin a military career in 1977. While a member of Rhodesia's Light Infantry, Bone painted vivid scenes of combat. A severe war injury forced his retirement and resulted in his decision to paint full time. Inspired by a trip into the Zambezi Valley bushveld, the artist began to paint African wildlife in their native habitat.

In his signature style of meticulous realism, Bone offers the viewer a magical encounter with elusive animals and a fleeting glimpse of Africa's exotic beauty. The artist currently resides in a remote area of Northern Zimbabwe and travels through Zimbabwe, Botswana and Mozambique spending countless hours observing and photographing wildlife. Bone's work is represented in numerous museums worldwide and he has illustrated several books that celebrate the diverse landscape of Africa.
