Norman Rockwell's sixth Willie Gillis cover for the Saturday Evening Post is a clever example of the artist's creative solution when his model, Robert Buck, left for active duty in the Navy and was no longer available to pose. Here, and in subsequent covers, Willie Gillis would appear only in photographs. The models Rockwell used here were real-life sisters, the daughters of fellow Post illustrator Mead Schaeffer.
