Saturday Evening Post cover, Sep 17, 1960.
Norman Rockwell meet a budding artist and young soldier from Washington State stationed in western Massachusetts in 1960. With a furlough coming up, he wrote to his idol, Norman Rockwell, asking if he might be allowed to visit. Receiving an unexpected invitation by mail, he traveled to Stockbridge and was introduced to the artist. "You'll do," said Rockwell on seeing his visitor, and he was cast on the spot as a leering window washer. From Norman Rockwell: Behind the Camera
