Artist Biographies

Charles McVicker

Charles McVicker has been a painter and illustrator for more than thirty years and maintained a studio in Manhattan for twenty of those years. He holds a BA degree from Principia College, Elsah, Illinois, and a BPA degree from the Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles, California.

His work has appeared and won awards in many juried exhibits, and his paintings are in the permanent collections of the U.S. Capitol, Princeton University, the Dupont Corporation, and Johnson & Johnson, as well as many private collections.

McVicker’s work published by Image Conscious displays a fine sense of detail and light which subtly captures the mood of the seasons. His floral scenes are finely detailed, realistic studies, which have a richness of color and charmingly show the imperfections of the floral arrangements. Rays of sunlight capture the warmth from outside, which is reflected again in the surface of the petals.

“Due to a positive outlook, I still search for that maligned quality, beauty,” says McVicker, “and do find in nature hints of a higher meaning.” The artist also likes to vary his media and is accomplished in both oil and acrylic. “I will often experiment in acrylic since the medium is so vesatile. Because it is usable both transparently and opaquely, I am freer with it, “ says McVicker. “I will then do the same subject in oil in a more formal way.”

He is a past president of the Society of Illustrators, and his work has appeared in many of the Society’s annual shows. He is now Assistant Professor of Art at the College of New Jersey.
