Isabelle began painting at the age of four and still uses her childhood nickname, Bebelle, as the signature on her paintings. After her graduation from the Brussels Academy in the mid-1960's Isabelle created and marketed hand-painted fabrics out of her home. She has gone on to create commissioned murals for fine hotels and private homes throughout Europe and established her own studio, Creations Isabelle de Borchgrave, in 1983.
She is inspired by gardens and seascapes, her children, and improbable objects. Collages of antique letters interact with her art to give the illusion of pressed flowers in an ancient book. Her landscapes feature gardens she designs and plants herself at her Brussels townhouse. Oriental architecture, tapestry, and porcelain patterns also inspire her.
Isabelle is the designer of a growing collection of high quality products including textiles, furniture, lighting, ceramics and frames, candleholders, baskets, vases and planters produced by companies in Europe and the United States.
