ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES - JEREMY SANDERS

Artist Biographies

Jeremy Sanders

Jeremy Sanders’ preferred medium is oils, which allow him to create a broad, rich application of paint, and satisfies his love for color and light. Jeremy applies the oils directly from the tube with cut-up credit cards or phone cards. Says the artist, "My concern is not with the specifics of an illustration, or trying to appeal to people’s intellect; but with working on their emotions and memories." Those memories are enriched by Jeremy’s travels to North Africa, Cuba, India and Europe.

Jeremy is particularly inspired by the color and light of the Mediterranean. He enjoys painting light effects on buildings and capturing the different effects of light as it passes through a typical sundrenched day. His main artistic influences come from the artist Edward Hopper, and his use of space and the figures within it.

Jeremy studied at St. Martin’s School of Art and the University of West Country, graduating with first class honors. He was initially aided by the Prince’s Trust and exhibited widely with them. During the second year of his sponsorship he was awarded the Prince’s Trust Gold Medal.

Jeremy has had solo exhibitions throughout England; at Century Gallery, Datchet, Medici Gallery, Mayfair; 3-D Gallery, Bristol; Gallery International, E. Grinstead; and The Forest Gallery, Guilford. In recent years he has completed several corporate commissions, most notably executing paintings for the director’s offices and board room of the National Westminster Life Assurance Head Office in Bristol.
