P.G. Gravele

P.G. Gravele is intrigued by both abstract and representational elements, incorporating both in his paintings on paper, canvas and collage which further integrates the balance of styles with the introduction of metallic foils. "Having to choose to paint and draw in just one way would seem stifling.... Specificity of subject allows me to vary aspects of color, balance, line, texture and contrast to create different effects from painting to painting."

The artist is equally fascinated by experimenting with the quality of line and exploring new color relationships; each and both continue to challenge Gravele, keeping the work fresh and rewarding. "Immersing myself in both representational and abstract elements continually reinforces my visualizing in extremely dichotomous ways. This, in turn, leads me to discoveries that produce not only growth but, also, revitalization. The challenge of this quest for increased awareness is what I hope to communicate. Perfect balance may be impossible to achieve, but it is the striving that fuels and energizes my work."

A self-taught artist born near the shores of Lake Michigan, Gravele has lived in Wisconsin since the early 1980s, and is exhibited and collected throughout the Midwest and, recently, in Los Angeles.
