ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES - SCOTT MEDLOCK

Scott Medlock has a passion for sports and his style communicates the power, strength and emotion of sport and its participants. A versatile artist with a strong vision, Medlock works in both illustration and the fine arts. Painting with an immediacy which is part-impressionistic, part-expressionistic, the unfinished quality in many of his images works to focus attention on the areas of his, and his subject's, concentration.

"I prefer to concern myself with the emotional qualities, rather than technical. If an artist becomes too technical, both with his subject and his craft, his work becomes lifeless. Knowing too much will often create a wall between the work and the viewer, and it's what people bring to a painting when they see it that makes it important."

Medlock has been the recipient of numerous awards, including those from Illustration West 30, European Illustration in both 1991 and 1992, and The Society of Illustrators. He won the Best of Show at California State University, Northridge in 1987.

His work is represented in the private collections of over twenty-five corporations and patrons, including The Writers Guild of America, Miller Brewing and Nissan Corporation.
